Downtown Walking Tour: Hometown Heroes
Starts at the Wild Goose Meeting House (401 N. Tejon St.)
This special walking tour highlights lesser-known figures from the history of Colorado Springs who took a stand against violence and injustice. Downtown Partnership would like to thank the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum for the educational research and resources that informed this tour.
Downtown Walking Tours are conducted in compliance with all current public health orders.
As of most recent update to this page (November 10), safety precautions will include:
– Masks required for tour guides and for participants
– Tour groups of no more than 10
– Tour participants encouraged to maintain physical distancing of 6′ or more
– Pre-tour beverages will be offered outdoors only

Mike’s project will culminate in an exhibit that will feature 50 pairs of photographs and will open on July 8, 2021 at Library 21c. The photos will be on display at this location for 2 months and then travel to various library branches and other venues for the next 6-12 months. Event through September 8, 2021.
The project is designed to celebrate the Colorado Springs sesquicentennial and educate the public about the history of the area. It has the backing of the mayor’s office and was recognized by Colorado Springs City Council on January 28, 2020 through an official proclamation.
Our invitational championship Rodeo promises edge-of-your-seat excitement featuring many of the best athletes in the business, along with a variety of other traditional western events sure to please the whole family. Fans of all ages will enjoy all the action! Grounds open at 4:00 p.m.—come early, skip the traffic, and enjoy the family-friendly pre-show fun, including mutton bustin’ tryouts, pony rides, mechanical bull rides, a climbing wall and much more! Also, be sure to swing by the Coors Roadhouse Saloon right after the Rodeo to enjoy live music each night!

On Saturday, July 17, the museum will open early for a special presentation on the P-47 and its role in the Battle for France. There is no additional charge for this event—just purchase a ticket to the museum and arrive early so you can be in place for the presentation. Get Tickets
This one-hour event will be held at 9am in the Westpac Restoration Hangar located on the museum campus. The presentation will be made in front of the museum’s P-47 which will be flown subject to weather conditions and runway availability.
The P-47 Thunderbolt was considered by many to be the best fighter-bomber of World War II. A highly versatile aircraft with excellent handling qualities and extraordinary survivability, the P-47 played a critical role in the Allied invasion of France and the ultimate victory over Germany.
The story of the P-47’s role in the battle for France will be presented by Lt. Col. Ashby Taylor, USAF (ret.), a fighter pilot with 21 years of service in United States Air Force. Lt. Col. Taylor flew 160 combat missions in Viet Nam and attended the USAF Fighter Weapons School and Test Pilot School.

This John Denver tribute has performed to encore-demanding audiences all over the world. John Adams takes the stage, leading his John Denver tribute band that consists of top-rated professional musicians that elevate the audiences experience to an unmatched performance from any tribute concert they’ve ever heard. Each John Denver song is performed effortlessly as audience members can relax and reminisce about an age long gone.
The music is performed exactly how fans remember hearing from the Rocky Mountain legend himself. Songs like Rocky Mountain High, Take Me Home Country Roads, Annie’s Song, Calypso, and Thank God I’m a Country Boy combine with the personal stories that John Adams shares about his poignant times spent with John Denver.

The 12th Annual Royal Gorge Whitewater Festival (RGWF) features kayak, stand up paddle board, raft and river board competitions along with other events to promote the outdoors and an active lifestyle. The Arkansas River roars through the Royal Gorge and immediately enters Cañon City. The Whitewater Park is in the western portion of Cañon City, just a little over a mile from the end of the Royal Gorge. The RGWF celebrates the Arkansas River and highlights the many recreational opportunities it presents.
Not only will you enjoy the festival event but there is plenty of food, beer, vendors and entertainment for the entire family. All of the money raised goes towards continued expansion of the Whitewater Park, river restoration and charitable causes. It is the biggest party of the summer in Cañon City and one not to be missed. It's all about "Boats, Bands, and Beer!" What is a summer festival without all three?
